I’ve edited out the count down clock during the first 38 seconds of the flash file. Replaced the right audio track with a duplicate left audio track – the right audio track only contained background sound with no voice over. Audio is normalised up. The video has been cropped slightly and resized back to 640×360 and converted to iPod format.

Thanks again. The past two postings at Demonoid I’ve been getting “Can’t send torrent. To download the torrent you must register.” Public registration is closed, however, except for one or two days at the beginning of each month. Others getting this?

I can send you an invite code for Demonoid if you want, just send me an e-mail to nordicxplained@gmail.com and I’ll send you the necessary info so you can set up your own account so you won’t be blocked out anymore.

You can use the Piratebay or Mediafire links or the magnet to get the same torrent file – it’s all the same thing. I did this in case websites go down or I have trouble posting to any of them. Hopefully at least one will be up.

With Demonoid you can view the torrents but you need to login to download them whereas at Piratebay or Mediafire you don’t need to login to download the torrent. The magnet URI is probably the easiest method assuming you’re running a BT client that’s capable of understanding magnets.

Yeah, I know. I found Demonoid the most reliable this season and then all of a sudden last weekend it wanted a login. The problem now is that I’m activated, thanks to doogiski, but the site doesn’t recognize my login and there’s been no answer from support as to why.

According to the KingOfSat website to get the best coverage in all languages of Eurosport it seems you need a satellite dish pointing to 13.0°E Hot Bird. This gives access to the encrypted digital European Eurosport 1 and 2 in SD and HD. British Eurosport on 28.2°E/Astra2 gives less than 100% coverage of the Cross Country and Biathlon although their HD channel sometimes fills in the missing bits but Eurosport 2 HD isn’t available on 28.2°E. I’ll make some enquires and see if it’s possible to get broadcasts from 13.0°E in the UK.

Skiclassics Vasaloppet (2012-03-04) Webrip x264 AAC 640×360 iPod

The 90km Vasaloppet, the most classical long distance cross-country ski race in the world, is held annually, on the first Sunday in March, in the beautiful and historically important region of Dalarna in Sweden.

The race was started in 1922 and is inspired by the run that the future King Gustav Vasa made in 1520 to get away of the invading king of Denmark. Gustav Vasa, fearing for his life and discovery by the Danish troops, spoke to an assembly of men in Mora, aiming to convince them to raise a levy and start a rebellion against king Christian of Denmark. The men did not want to fight for those reasons so on his ski’s, Gustav Vasa started to make his way towards Norway, to find refuge there, when two Mora brothers on ski’s caught up with him in Sälen. The men in Mora had changed their minds after hearing that the Danish rulers had decided to raise taxes, and they now wanted Gustav to lead the rebellion. On the 6th of June 1523, Gustav Vasa was crowned king of Sweden, having beaten the Danish king Christian. Sweden has been fully independent ever since.

Vasaloppet is the oldest, the longest, and also considered the biggest cross-country ski race in the world. In the 80th race, held on 7 March 2004, some 15,500 skiers competed in the main event. The course starts in Sälen where Gustav Vasa was caught by the brothers and passes through beautiful taiga forests, villages, marsh lands and lakes before finishing 90km away in the picturesque city of Mora.

The M4V is just a device specific version of MP4 with an ‘uuid’ atom inserted into the file to allow it to run on an iPod. You can play it on any of the Apple gadgets (iPod/iPad/iTouch/iPhone) or on a standard PC or Mac.

    • March 11, 2012 at 12:05 pm

At 31:39 the broadcast feed changes from an interlaced mpeg2 to HD – you’ll see the half interlace line at the top disappear. You’ll also hear the audio repeated for about 1 second. This is probably due to the HD stream having an audio delayed by about 1 second. The audio level during the first 31 minutes was a lot lower than the rest of the file so I normalised this up to match the rest of the file.

It’s from the skiclassics site that RedDevi gave a link to below.
The flash webstream is 640×360 @795Kbps although it’s displayed in a smaller size when viewed on their website. I’ve converted it to iPod compatible format with the same frame size, same video and audio bitrates but it’s M4V so it plays on an iPod although you can also play it on a PC or Mac as well.

Eurosport have updated their broadcast equipment at last – the large black bars broadcast on the left and right of the raw picture have gone. This just means there’s slightly less cropping needed with a slightly lower W-Zoom value so the quality is slightly better. The encoded picture size is unchanged. The raw picture is still 544×576 but the black bars have reduced from 8 pixels to 2 pixels each side.

Man, I have loved all of these, thank you!

Any luck getting the Vassa from Sweden?

    • March 7, 2012 at 10:56 am

I’ve had a look at the Eurosport schedule and couldn’t find it.

      • March 7, 2012 at 11:05 am

Eurosport doesn’t have the rights to any of the races part of the worldloppet, so none of these great classics will be aired on their channels

They already have a hard time finding the time to show the World Cup races at all, so imagine if they had to fit in 3-4 hours races o_0

    • March 7, 2012 at 8:41 pm

I did find this, it isnt a torrent though but at least it is the whole race. The amount of people amaze me!

The Vasaloppet live webstream times out after about 4 hours of playing. You have to move the seek slider back to where it timed out if you want to see the end. I’ve ripped the stream and converted it into an M4V – see above.

    Oslo Mens 50km Individual (10th March 2012)
The mens event will be in 3 parts. Eurosport are attempting a double switch starting on Eurosport 1 then switching to Eurosport 2 after 30 minutes then switching back to Eurosport 1 again after 45 minutes for the last 75 minutes.
    http://tv.eurosport.co.uk/tvschedule.shtml
I’ll try to join the 3 parts together if possible but continuity gaps will exist in the broadcast.
It would have been simpler to stick the Alpine Skiing on Eurosport 2.

I upload the same torrent to Piratebay (BasilBrush), Demonoid (tdf2008) and Mediafire and post the links here. If Piratebay and/or Demonoid go down (which they do occasionally) the Mediafire should hopefully be up. If that fails there’s always the magnet hash that does the same thing. The tracker on the end of the magnet hash just speeds up the connection to other peers. It’ll also work without the tracker but it takes a bit longer to connect to other peers.

What was the excuse of Eurosport this time? Alpine Skiing? Ski Jumping? Pool? Darts?

During the weekend it is acceptable that they decide to give priority to some events. On a Friday, it is not.

    • February 17, 2012 at 2:37 pm

There was 4 hours of snooker on British Eurosport 1 and 7 hours of tennis on British Eurosport 2. It looks like they’ve somehow managed to squeeze the X-country in tomorrow (18th Feb 2012) on British Eurosport 2. In Europe it’s on European Europort 1 and HD. It’s Alpine Skiing followed by another marathon session of snooker tomorrow on British Europort 1. Upload tomorrow will be about 4pm GMT.

      • February 17, 2012 at 8:28 pm

For info, I managed to record the whole sprint on European Eurosport, in French. I’ll pass it along to you later today. The only thing I’m missing is the post-race fluff after Kershaw’s victory because the race lasted longer than they had scheduled, so the recording stops abruptly – but it does last 1 hour 40!

Sorry about Sunday’s relay – I had just too much work and couldn’t find the time to make sense of the mess that recording was: I need to make sense of the bits I have first :s

          February 17, 2012 at 10:10 pm

Would be nice to see that!

Only why on Earth did you write that Kershaw won?! 😦 Obviously people who want to download the race haven’t seen it yet…

          • February 17, 2012 at 10:33 pm

Seriously, you don’t check the results online before watching the race if you can’t see it live???? I don’t know how you can do that 😀 To me, it seemed obvious that people would know the results, especially since the final is available on Youtube and there’s one torrent available here already

Then again, I’m also the kind of gal who reads the last few pages of a book before starting it :p

Well, you learn something new everyday! I’ll make sure not to mention any result on this thread from now on 😉

Well, if I knew the results of the race, there would be no excitement in watching it… All the emotions would be gone – and then the time would be better spent doing something else (like actually skiing myself).

          • Aldo
            February 18, 2012 at 4:45 am

Same here. Knowing the results are always 50% less exciting than watching without knowing it.

Hopefully rayhaneh28 has the mens relay as well from Sunday 12th Feb 2012

    • February 14, 2012 at 3:21 pm

This one is played back through the component outputs of a set top box (which is an analogue signal) and re-digitised back to an MPEG2 stream by a Hauppauge PVR box so the quality isn’t as good.

    • February 14, 2012 at 4:27 pm

Just spotted a bug – the playback speed is too fast by 18%.
If you use a stop watch and measure 60 seconds you’ll see the clock on the screen move by 71 seconds. In other words the Hauppage PVR box frame rate is out of sync with real-time. This is one of the problems using the old analogue capture method.

The two parts of the mens race have been combined into one file. There’s a short gap of 1m 50s in the mens race between parts 1 and 2 at 24m 29s (21:46 on the race clock) where Eurosport swapped channels.

    • February 4, 2012 at 2:06 pm

You’ll notice a message at the start of the mens race saying it’s the womens 10km race.

Looks like Saturdays British Eurosport coverage for the Rybinsk races is going to be screwed up again, starting on Eurosport 2 for the first part of the men’s 15k then switching to over to regular Eurosport for the last 15 minutes of the finish. Then back on Eurosport 2 they’ll be showing ski jumping prelims from Italy, which better not fucking run late as usual because that will eat into the womens 10k race which they have only allotted 30 minutes for.

Hello, thanks for all your videos, cross country skiing and biathlon 🙂
I have a request – can you record also ski jumping World Cup from Eurosport and Eurosport2? I will download all ski jumping competitions if you will record it and upload a torrent. Thank you very much if it will be possible.

    • January 26, 2012 at 1:25 pm

I’d love to but I’m busy with other stuff so I haven’t got the time. The other problem is that there’s a lot of conflicts with ski jumping on one channel and x-country or biathlon on the other Eurosport channel. You’d need dual channel recording which might be possible on modern Ski or Dreamboxes boxes with dual LNB inputs and a hard drive.

Hi JungleBoy, Do you have any idea why the files you create wont run natively on a PS3? I’m in the US for a couple of years and they just dont do Skiing TV like back home in the UK!

Basically I take every file you upload and copy it (so I dont stop seeding the original), rename it to include the date (so I can watch them in the correct order when viewing files on the PS3) and then run a conversion program for a few hours so the PS3 can read them!

Any idea if there’s a change you can make so that PS3’s can read them? – I did some research and it looks like its just the container thats the issue (not 100% sure tho tbh) but I couldn’t find a tool to remux them (which would be loads quicker). I know remuxing the MKV container is very fast (just in case MKV is an option you like).

No prob if you cant, I’ll just keep reprocessing them 🙂 and as I said way back when you started uploading. THANK YOU. you’re a life saver.

    • January 24, 2012 at 8:16 am

I’ve no idea why they don’t play on a PS3. I’ll check the PS3 spec and try to get to the bottom of this.

    • January 24, 2012 at 8:26 am

It looks like the PS3 doesn’t support HE-AAC audio otherwise known as AAC+. It supports the older AAC-LC format similar to the Apple iPod. The h264 High@Level 3.1 video should be ok. The -sar 1:1 might also be needed – I’ll check it on my PS3.

      http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/video/filetypes.html

    • January 24, 2012 at 9:00 am

MeGUI contains only one PS3 profile which uses AVC level 4.2 – I’m using only AVC level 3.1. The PS3 profile has VBV set to 31250 – I’ve used 0 which allows the player to calculate the VBV setting but maybe the PS3 player has a problem with this. Also the PS3 profile calls for 3 reference frames – I’ve used 4 reference frames similar to the BBC MP4 files. The PS3 profile doesn’t have -sar 1:1 set which is what an iPod requires. I’ll try running some tests on my PS3 and see what happens.

        January 24, 2012 at 11:11 am

Thanks JungleBoy. In those three responses you’ve blown right past my limited understanding of video encoding! I do appreciate you taking a look though 🙂

        • January 26, 2012 at 1:20 pm

I can play the MP4 files without a problem on my PS3. I’ve got the latest version 4 firmware installed on the PS3. I used a 4GB Flash USB stick formated with FAT32. I was surprised that it played HE-AAC audio ok – the audio codec must have been updated as the Sony website says that the PS3 only understands AAC-LC inside a MP4 container. It also has the AC3 and PCM codecs but these are assumed to be in an MPEG container. The picture size can be either stretched full screen 1920×1080 or played at 832×468 mode. Try checking your firmware version.

        • January 26, 2012 at 1:58 pm

I’ve tried a couple of files and they all work ok on my PS3. All the files are encoded the same way using CABAC CRF 25 (approx 1000 to 1700Kbps) with HE-AAC 128Kbps 2 channel 48KHz sample rate – all pretty basic stuff. CRF 25 gave approx 1400Kbps which is near to what the BBC use for their 2 pass 1400Kbps 832×468 files. The bitrate will vary with CRF mode – sometimes it’s high, sometimes it’s low – it’s depends on the quality of the video. Low quality video requires more bitrate for a given quantizer so I sometimes raise the CRF value to lower the bitrate.

There’s at least 4 generations of PS3 around:
          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3_hardware
The PS3 version I’ve got is relatively new about 2010.

        • January 26, 2012 at 4:02 pm

I’m using multi-frequency flat panel HD TV connected via HDMI to the PS3. Have you got something similar ?

            January 26, 2012 at 4:30 pm

Okay, I’m getting very hopeful now! My PS3 is reasonably up to date but I’ve just checked and there is a firmware update 😀 I’m updating it now.
Bare in mind that after the first few failed to run back in November I’ve not tried them again so it may be that you’ve tweaked your format too since then (?)
Anyway the PS3 is downloading the firmware now so fingers very crossed!
Thanks for taking a look for me on your PS3…

Either the firmware or a tweak you made in the past but a HUGE thank you for looking into it as I’d never have retested it and I would have just continued converting them!
            Fantastic, Thanks you 🙂

          • January 27, 2012 at 1:41 am

All the files use the same settings. I’ve checked the early files like the Sjusjoen Individual back on 19th Nov 2011 and the spec is the same. The only thing that’s changed is the version of x264. Back in November 2011 I was using x264 r2085. Now I’m on r2146 – the x264 encoder changes regularly but this shouldn’t effect the mp4 files. The latest x264 can be found at http://x264.nl – if you’re using MeGUI just download and copy it into the MeGUI tools->x264 folder. You’ll find the 32bit version here: C:\Program Files\megui\tools\x264\x264.exe

          • January 27, 2012 at 1:52 am

The files should also play on Apple iPad 1 and 2 and maybe AppleTV although the CABAC encoding could be a problem. They’ll also play under Quicktime and Atom based netbooks although running Quicktime on a netbook isn’t recommended – the Quicktime h264 decoder is very slow. It’s better to use MPC-HC with ffdshow-tryouts and either the LAVF or Haali splitter or use VLC as a second option. Another good player for HTPC’s is XBMC. The files should also play on the Xbox as well – maybe someone can test this.

          • January 27, 2012 at 4:10 am

Also when copying the files to a FAT32 formatted USB memory stick or hard drive the MP4 files need to be inside a folder called “VIDEO”.

I got the entire ladies race off of the Estonian TV webcast. No commercial gaps. I’ll have to compare how much Jungleboy’s British Eurosport recording cut out. The Estonian commentator did a short interview in English with the winner beyond of what FIS interview girl Sandra Smitzer always does every race. There was a couple of sequences of Jessica Diggins skiing even though she started early as a lower rank.

I saw it on the (Polish? Slovenian?) version of Eurosport. The UK schedule says it was shown on Eurosport 2, You got to record a replay of it, Kikkan Randall and Jessica Diggins do a really sweet chest bump in the finish area. My recording is a really crappy .mpg file–small but very blurry resolution.

It was another chaotic day on Eurosport… in Germany they showed 4,5 hours of ski jumping / ski flying (just on Eurosport1 (!)) – 1,5 hours on Eurosport2…

The reason for this was the cancelled men’s ski flying competition on saturday..

So they changed the whole schedule for Eurosport1 / Eurosport2 between 10 a.m. (GMT) and 1 p.m. (GMT) – the women’s alpine skiing was broadcast on eurosport2 although it was planned to be broadcast on Eurosport1 – but suddenly they showed the last 45 min of the women’s alpine skiing on eurosport1 and started the XC Skiing on Eurosport2 earlier, at around 11.30 (GMT)..

I can’t receive Eurosport2 on TV, so i watched an internet stream of British Eurosport2, but i could just see the men’s team sprint final and the final results (with the winners alexey petuchov and nikolay morilov) so i’m sure they did broadcast it, afterwards they showed yesterdays sprints. as you mentioned before..
At around 11.40 (GMT), i started the British Eurosport2 stream, and the race was almost over – the strange thing is… it was planned to be broadcast LIVE (!) at 12.00 p.m. but as i mentioned, the men’s finals were completed a quarter-hour earlier.

What i don’t understand is the fact, that eurosport always prefers ski jumping and that this channel is nearly unable to show recorded versions of live events, they always switch into the running competitions, for example the 8th stage of the tour de ski (the Men’s 20km classical)

And from monday to wednesday/thursday, they show 4 to 5 repeats of the same ski jumping competion from last sunday.

next sunday there is another confusing schedule:

In germany they broadcast the men’s 15km classical from Otepää at 10 a.m. (60 min) and the Women’s 10km classical at 1.15 p.m. (75 min) – on british eurosport, there is the same live broadcast of the mens race (60 min), but the womens 10km are on the schdule as a highlights broadcast at 11p.m. (45 min)…

And the Australian Open dominate the Eurosport TV schedules for the next weeks..

By the way, thanks for all your capping efforts, i don’t know how many races i would have missed because of these confusing last minute “u-turns” in the tv schedules..

        • January 16, 2012 at 2:42 pm

Regarding the why Eurosport always gives priority to ski jumping (and biathlon, actually), I think that it can probably be explained by the fact that both are probably more popular with central Europe (and in particular the German-speaking countries/areas) than cross-country skiing, especially now with Germans and Austrians not having nearly as much a presence at the top as they used to a few years ago. Meanwhile ski jumping is really big in both countries and biathlon is really popular in Germany and France, which are two heavyweight in the Eurosport family, while countries that favor xc, i.e. nordic countries, probably don’t weigh nearly as much when such choices are made (plus, there’s already an excellent tv coverage of xc on national channels there)

Well, that’s my two cents about it anyway :p

That’s exactly what I wrote earlier this season. Now if only one you who lives in Norway could record and bittorent the NRK HD broadcasts, all would be right in the world.

      Hi Guys,

I found a copy of the Milan Team Sprint via Eurosport Russia http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BF7KbMqvzi8. Best of all it’s in 720p! I believe the broadcast only shows the men’s and women’s finals and not the semis. If you want to copy the video to your HD, I suggest using http://www.keep-tube.com. It does the job fine.

      • Hy
        January 21, 2012 at 8:58 am

I’d toss the free FVD Suite into the mix, as it is a very good all around app for this purpose, as well as other file type and for conversions.

          January 21, 2012 at 11:06 am

On second thought, keep-tube allows options that include HD downloading that FVD Suite doesn’t appear to.

      • shreddir
        January 21, 2012 at 11:39 pm

I don’t think this broadcast is Eurosport Russian. Not only is the Eurosport logo missing at the upper right corner, there are no commercial breaks in the coverage. For example, on the Eurosport broadcast they only showed a split second of Kikkan chest bumping Jessica Diggins before they cut to commercial. On this broadcast they show them doing it twice in a row and goofing around afterwards. This Russian network “cport HD” uses the EBU feed non-stop. I like it more than British Eurosport because they don’t miss anything even though it’s not in English. I only put Norway’s NRK ahead of them because they don’t interview the Norwegian cute girls before and after the races. The 720p video is awesome even I can only view it after downloading it to my harddrive because my Comcast broadband service is total garbage when it comes to HD youtube streaming. I hope the uploader “vladamir” is also capping more World Cup broadcasts.

Thank goodness you’re still doing this (used this site last year but have sky+ now) – for some reason my recording stopped at 79 mins missing the ending of the mens, and doesn’t seem to’ve recorded the womens at all, even though I record the progams before and after in anticipation of this problem. So thankyou!

      • January 6, 2012 at 1:52 am

The programmes can sometimes start 30 minutes before the schedule time and sometimes over-run by at least another 30 minutes. Also the mens and ladies events can be combined. The stage 3 event was also a good example where the channel schedules were reversed at the last minute with no announcement. The Sky+ boxes have dual LNB inputs but I think you can only record one programme at a time.

The mens and ladies sprint events at the 2011-12 Tour de Ski Stage 3 from Oberstdorf Germany.

A bit of a cock up at Eurosport on this one. Only partially captured at the start due to unannounced channel swap. It was meant to be on Eurosport 2 for the first half then Eurosport 1 for the second half. It was actually the other way around so if you set your Set Top Box from the EPG you’re likely to have captured nothing but various ski jumping events instead. By luck I found it on Eurosport 1 but after 7 minutes they swapped to Eurosport 2 but there was no announcement of this. Luckily I found it on Eurosport 2 where the announcers were talking of swapping back to Eurosport 1 again but this didn’t happen. This also screwed up the MotoGP event which was meant to be on Eurosport 2.

Thank you! So does that mean that there’s a part that’s missing?

        • December 31, 2011 at 5:14 pm

The second half is almost complete. I think the problem was the ski jumping was delayed so they started the sprints but on Eurosport 1 but then the ski jumping started so they switched Eurosport 1 to ski jumping but didn’t tell anyone that they’d moved to Eurosport 2. When I turned to Eurosport 2 they were talking of moving back to Eurosport 1 when the ski jumping finished – it was confusing. Basically ski jumping for some reason has priority.

          • VPupkin
            January 1, 2012 at 5:25 am

Yeah, I understood about the confusion. I meant, is an important part missing? That is, what is missing: say, women’s final (important) or men’s quarterfinals (not so important, although a shame, too).

          • Aldo
            January 1, 2012 at 6:07 am

Apparently everything important is there, including the major falls. Mostly missing are the 1/4 finals (more of the women must some of the men too)

          • January 1, 2012 at 7:55 am

The finals are in but most of the quarter finals are missing. If I see a split broadcast in future between Eurosport 1 and 2 I’ll flick between the channels just to make sure. What would be better is to capture both at the same time.

Thanks Anonymous – the video quality is better than the Eurosport broadcast.
The torrent will ready before 8pm GMT – filesize is about 1.2Gbyte, runtime is 105 minutes.
I’ve used CRF 24 as the video quality from Oberhof is good – that should raise the bitrate to about 1400Kbps.

      It’s really x264 CABAC High L3.1 832×468 25fps CRF 25

    • December 26, 2011 at 11:58 am

The quality of the Rogla video is noticeably worse than from other places.
Using CRF 25 causes the bitrate to rise to over 1700Kbps – it should be under 1200Kbps,
The source is the usual low quality 544x576i 25 which requires 10 pixel cropping.

      • December 28, 2011 at 11:01 pm

The first torrent marked “17th December 2011 British Eurosport” is mainly the ladies race and 2 minutes of the mens race. Eurosport only broadcast the live mens race on European Eurosport 2 (France/Germany) but not British Eurosport.

The second torrent marked “17th December 2011 French Eurosport 2” was created by rayhaneh28 from the live broadcast on French Eurosport 2 – the language is French.

The third torrent marked “25th December 2011 British Eurosport 2” is the recorded highlight version of the mens race which was broadcast on Christmas day (and Boxing Day).

There was a 30 minute version on British Eurosport on 17th Dec but I missed that. What you probably want is the last one.

CRF 28 was needed to lower the bitrate. One of the cameras had a 16 pixel black bar down the right side – it’s normally an 8 pixel black bar. I have the whole men’s race recorded from Eurosport 2 in French, but I’d need to see how I can transfer it to my computer (I have a Hauppauge, but I have never tried to connect it to by digital box yet – I use it mostly to record console games), and then I’d need instructions on how to create a torrent 😀

Otherwise I can record in on the computer if they show it in German today, but the quality will be pretty weak :s

Yes, European Eurosport 2 (France/Germany) are covering the mens race at 11:00 CET on 17th Dec. British Eurosport 2 are covering the Alpine Skiing. Basically there’s a clash with the Biathlon Pursuit from Hochfilzen. It’s the same every year – you’d think they could sort this out but it’s beyond their control.

Their inexplicable disregard for sprints makes me weep… They almost never cut individual starts, and almost always cut sprint heats – and the latter are so much more interesting than watching some of the early numbers struggle past the early check-points!

Don’t count on seeing the women’s quarterfinals of today’s Davos sprints because Eurosport has them scheduled after live ski jumping again #*&!!. You JUST know the fricking jumpers are going to run late again as usual so it will eat into the XC coverage 😦

Yes, the Davos Sprints have only been allocated 30 minutes on Eurosport 1 with 3 hours of snooker on Eurosport 2. British Eurosport and European Eurosport are broadcasting identical programmes today. Sometimes Eurosport HD is used as a third channel with better coverage but not today unless the Ski jumping is cancelled.

To edit out the mens race from the mp4 file you’ll need to install MP4Box from here:
      http://gpac.wp.institut-telecom.fr/mp4box/
Copy and rename the mp4 file to a convenient place – don’t try editing the original file.
Start up a command prompt and type:
      > mp4box -splitx 2510:5023 file.mp4
This creates a 41m 55s mp4 that starts at the Start List and finishes at the Finish List.
If you prefer there’s also GUI front ends available for MP4Box.

I’ve been using CRF mode (1 pass) as it’s faster than 2 pass but the average bitrate and filesize in CRF mode is un-predictable. CRF 24 gives too high an average bitrate (~1700Kbps) and CRF 25 gives too low an average bitrate (~1000Kbps) so I’ll try 24.5 next time. CRF 25 has a peak bitrate of (>4000Kbps) and it looks ok.

        Thanks a lot!

It’s simply ridiculous how they always cut sprint heats! :(( For me, sprints are the most exciting events in the entire cross-country program, and watching a spring quarter-final heat is certainly much more exciting than watching the first numbers of an interval race stagger along the track. And yet they always cut the former and never the latter. That just doesn’t make any sense! :((

          November 26, 2011 at 12:01 am

This is going to happen multiple times this season whenever XC is scheduled after F*^king ski jumping because the jumpers always run late because their coaches hold them until they think the wind is just right and Eurosport believe their fat German and Austrian viewer audience thinks ski jumping is more important than cross-country…. bunch of bratwurst eating losers! This is why I sometimes record the live Finnish TV stream because they put higher priority on XC even though the video quality is crummy compared to the Eurosport recordings. I would record Norways NRK stream but I can’t because they block all North American ISP addresses 😦

Eurosport have better coverage on their Eurosport Player where one of their many channels is devoted to Cross-Country Skiing but it costs £3.99/month. You can only watch live stuff (I think) and it’s also geo-locked so if you live outside of Europe you’ve not allowed to watch it. If you do live outside of Europe you’ll need a VPN to change your IP address. You could try either Relakks to connect to European Eurosport or Expat-Shield to connect to British Eurosport. Proxies might work as well but the proxy needs to be within Europe.

Sorry about this but what I said above was a load of tripe. The Eurosport Player only appears tp be offering the basic TV channels this year. The dedicated Cross-Country Skiing channel isn’t available this year it seems. I’m looking here:
            http://www.eurosportplayer.co.uk/tv.shtml
There might also be a http://www.eurosportplayer.com/tv.shtml
as well for the European version – I’m geo-locked out of the European one but I have a way of checking it later.

The Eurosport player will be showing apparently 2 hours of Dusseldorf sprints (3rd Dec 2011) from 11:30 to 13:30 – on the Nordic Combined Channel (not the Cross Country Channel)
            Check it out here: http://www.eurosportplayer.co.uk/tv.shtml

Whereas the satellite Eurosport channels start coverage at 12:15 until 13:15

Sometimes there’s a difference in coverage between European Eurosport (France/Germany) and British Eurosport but they’re similar on Saturday.

This information could be wrong as the satellite is showing Nordic combined starts at 11:30 until 12:15 unless the Eurosport player shows the Cross Country on the Cross Country channel (rather than the Nordic Combined Channel).
